May 8 - Jon Gresham Request Night
(on 17/10/03 by Richard Morrell - Reports Meetings)
Initiation Show - Alan Carter
Alan opened with a sucker torn and restored note, and followed with the invisible deck and finished with a four ace trick, where the aces changed backs and faces to finish as four kings.

Initiation Show - Jim Hyam
Jim opened with the 1089 prediction, followed by the classic four burglars. He finished with a routine using a Svengali deck. Both members were unanimously voted into membership.

Arthur Setterington introduced the Memorial night by explaining how Jon Gresham came to originate the idea of the Request evening, and continued with reminiscences of Jon. Domanic Li, followed by David Cookson showed us a variety of false shuffles and cuts. The Royal Road to Card Magic included some of these sleights. Gordon Stow repeated his drunken magician act, seen at the Close-up competition, and Roxanne Broadbent showed us a mind reading item.

The Second Half started with Jonathan Gaines repeating his Maskelyne Wand mind reading, and then demonstrating the mathematics with a computer and screen. Arthur Setterington showed us the hand-written book by Ken Brooke that he owns, and then Ron Thompson showed us Ken Brooke's multiple-change book.

Ray Burrell demonstrated how far Arthur's Rubber Bands had evolved with ideas from Dave Neighbors, and Richard Morrell followed with a Broken and Restored Band, and Dan Harlan's Travelling Cash.

Malcolm Bromwich showed us Soft Diamonds and Brian Wilson repeated his Stop-Start Clock (orders are being taken). Brian Waltham showed us a trick from Magigram by introducing Fred in a vinegar bottle. Arthur Setterington thanked all members who had taken part, and finished by showing a letter from Houdini to De Vega, a past president of the society.
