In The Spotlight v8.2 - Chris Pawson
(on 01/04/03 by Richard Morrell - In the Spotlight)

This is my first ‘proper’ interview since taking over as Spotlight Operator and I have asked my good friend Chris Pawson to open up his mind to us. Chris is a lecturer in the School of Development, Education & Child Studies at Hull College and enjoys practising Magic in his spare time (when he's not looking after his beautiful new granddaughter).

I hope by reading these articles we will all learn something that we didn’t know about other members, for example, did you know Chris's favourite colour is sky blue pink with yellow dots!!!!

So now let’s focus on Chris and thanks for reading!!

Chris, when and how did you become interested in Magic?
As a small child I saw my father push a cigarette in his ear and it came out of his mouth and I was fascinated from that moment on.

Who is your favourite Magician?
Michael Ammar and I recently started to watch Lennart Green videos. He does some really amazing things with cards!

What book are you reading at the moment?
I only read books to do with work or Magic. Lewis Ganson’s books are probably the best thumbed ones I have in my collection.

When not doing Magic what do you do?
I'm a bit of a workaholic but having recently become a Granddad I spend as much time as I can with baby Joanne Louise.

How did you join HMC and how long have you been a member?
Gordon Stow introduced me to HMC and I have been a member for about 8 years.

Close-up or Stage?
Close-up.

Best night at HMC and why?
I enjoy every night but meeting Michael Ammar when he came over to give his lecture was a bonus.

Anything you would change at HMC?
Oh boy! Tough question. I guess the lighting could be better and I’m not sure why the stage isn't used more often.

Red or Blue backed cards?
Red

Choose any car and put your own number plate on it.
A metallic burgundy Jaguar without a doubt, with SALNIC 1 registration plate, after my children Sally and Nic.

David Copperfield or David Blaine?
David Copperfield.

Do you have a favourite film?
I never watch films, Magic videos, now that's different! I have just bought the three volumes of Green Magic.

What is your all-time favourite trick that you perform?
Out of this World with a few false shuffles takes some beating or any effect with a gambling theme.
